Last night I was stacking away some books in my mini bookshelf (what do expect out of a New York apartment?!) and I got caught up flipping through some amazing books! I always was a reader (Baby Sitter’s Club books under the covers with a flashlight was pretty common in my house) but my interests in various genres have grown expansively through the years. But to save you the laundry list of books I’ve read, here are some great and inspiring fashion-related reads that have secured a spot on my bookshelves! I am advocate of self-education (not saying formal education isn’t needed) but what you do without begin assigned or told to do so, I feel is much more effective…because it’s self-driven. Know Your Passion and feed it! Happy Reading!
A business partner handed me a book and said, “If you want to succeed, read this book.” Thankfully, I had the sense to listen and started reading! It’s view changer!
The book is “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David J. Schwartz, Ph.D. and the book spoke as it was speaking to me of some of the “excusitis” I gave myself subconsciously of why I could not (or should not) start, continue, or even think to do what I truly want to do in my life. The most important key point I took out of the book is that action cures fear. The only way to get over our fear is to do it.
If you’re wondering if you should start that business, go back to school, learn a new language, or just want to start having a positive mindset and start taking control of your destiny, then read the book. There aren’t many books that can be applied to one’s personal life, the work environment, a relationship, and self-image that is effective and valuable other than this book. Below are some key points:
- Believe your can succeed and you will
- Cure yourself of the fear of failure
- Think and dream creatively
- You are what you think you are
- Make your attitudes your allies
- Learn how to think positively
- Turn defeat into victory
- Use goals to help you grow
- Think like a leader
